We all know that our “Game Plan”, often referred to as Show Preparation is essential to a successful outcome in the arena. So lets take a serious look at it! Before the next show, you will understand Show Preparation and be able to apply the fundamentals correctly to best prepare each horse for their particular class.
When preparing, it′s honestly quite a challenge for most of us to 1) FOCUS on developing a winning strategy and 2) MANAGE the key components of executing a near perfect pattern regardless of the situation. With that in mind, I′ve broken it down and taken a horse that has had several pretty big runs on him, put him in a show environment and walked you thru the basic, but critical parts of how I best manage my warm up/show prep plan. At times it seems like a simple task, but there are so many areas that will require testing, a few last minute adjustments, and retesting. No matter how well we thought we where doing at home, we need to realize that the show environment completely different. Thus, effectively managing your warm up and drills in the show arena environment is extremely important to a positive outcome. This video will help you develop an great understanding how to test your horse and yourself prior to your class– which will produce lasting results!
I go thru what may seem like the basics, but once you review the entire video, you will learn that there is a systematic approach to every detail of each maneuver. Circles have several elements: Large Fast, Small Slow, Speed Control, Comeback, & Lead Changes! Same with the turnarounds: Correct Turnarounds must begin with a clean start, have a consistent step while being able to add speed and turn them off with precision. Where and when you add your voice and cues can determine the size of your paycheck! With your Stops; Consistency always pays. Checking your gears, steering and making sure your horse won′t run off is just the beginning. You’ve also got to stop well and rollback correctly to put points in the right column of the score sheet. Lets take an hour and go thru these critical areas prior to leaving for the next show. Once you get to the show, make sure you manage your checklist and strategy to the best of your ability.
After watching this video a few times and developing a solid plan for each of your horses at the show, you will not only add points to the score card but be increasing the size of your pay checks at the end of the day.
